Harbury step up plans for new season

Stratford Editorial 22nd Jun, 2020   0

HARBURY RFC have commenced pre-season training in accordance with Government guidance as attentions turn towards the 2020/21 campaign.

The club arranged a meeting on Zoom to catch up with players to inform them of the ongoing works which had been undertaken and gain an idea of their needs and wishes for the forthcoming season.

A club spokesman said: “While we await a date for the coming season to commence, the club are offering fitness sessions on Tuesday evenings.

“These sessions are delivered in accordance with RFU and Government guidelines on social distancing and enables players to gain vital pre-season fitness. The first session was attended by an encouraging 24 players.”

The 2019/20 season was curtailed by the RFU in March and subsequently the Midlands RFU – in co-operation with the RFU – resolved, for better or worse, the promotions and relegations from each league.

Harbury play in Midlands Four West (South) and this continues to be the case for 2020/21. Bromyard and Tenbury were promoted and Kings Norton were the lone relegated side following Dunlop’s withdrawal during the season.

The 12-club league will include relegated Bedworth and Upton, along with promoted Chaddesley Corbett and Rugby Welsh.

The Zoom meeting highlighted the good work which has been completed around the club.

Pitch maintenance is ongoing and playing surfaces have been areated to reduce compaction, whilst there has been regular grass cutting.

Club chairman Matt Knight has focused on ensuring the playing side is boosted and particularly commented on the junior and mini teams.

He not only picked up on the outstanding contribution they make in promoting the game, but also the role senior members can play in helping the under 15s and under 16s through their coaching and training.
