Work underway on Stratford Canal's new marina

Stratford Editorial 3rd Dec, 2016   0

WORK is well underway on a new marina on the Stratford Canal.

Landscaping and excavation has started outside Wootten Wawen for the new 50 berth Hill Farm Marina which is set to open next April.

The marina will be owned and run by the Amor family who have farmed in the area for the last 60 years. Cows and sheep previously grazed the land.

David Amor has teamed up with business partner David Cooke from Hatton to develop and run Hill Farm Marina.

As well as each mooring providing boats with wifi and electricity, the site will have shower and toilet facilities, a laundry room cafe and games room for visitors to use.

Mr Cooke told The Observer: “We will hopefully start to line the area with clay before Christmas and starting planting the soft edge around it.

“We’re hoping we’ll then be able connect to the canal and fill the space with water in the new year.

“People mooring will have access to the farm land to walk around and they’ll be able to see the various wildlife as well as livestock the farm has.

“It’s a really nice area for cruising and we hope more people will be interested in having a canal boat knowing there is somewhere to moor it close by.”

The pair have teamed up with a boat brokerage to help anyone thinking of taking up boating but who needs a helping hand to get started.
