A BID to improve Wellesbourne’s sporting facilities has been given a £1,000 cash boost.

The Wellesbourne Sports and Community Centre (WSCC) is looking to convert a disused building into a hub of community life complete with sports equipment.

And the donation from developers Persimmon Homes will go towards the project’s first phase of development, which is expected to be completed by autumn.

Anne Prior, committee chairman, said: “It was identified Wellesbourne had a lack of sporting facilities and this exciting project will address this need. The new sporting venues will feature a range of equipment which will appeal to various sporting clubs.

“Everyone supporting the project will see their name etched onto a brick wall in the building and Persimmon’s name will certainly take pride of place.”

The donation is part of the developer’s community champion initiative, which will see them hand out £24,000 to charities and community groups in the next year.
