Warwickshire charity set to double its reach due to pandemic struggles

A CHARITY supporting vulnerable families in Warwickshire is doubling its service in the face of the ongoing pandemic.

Home Start South Warwickshire supports households with children under five-years-old. The families struggle with issues such as isolation, depression, domestic violence, bereavement, physical disability, multiple births, teenage pregnancy and more.

The charity trains volunteers who visit their homes to provide emotional support, practical help and friendship.

Over the next year, Home Start is aiming to double its support to over 30 families and include anxiety support groups.

And a donation from farm insurer NFU Mutual of £270 will help the charity offer first aid training to up to 30 volunteers.

Charity spokeswoman Mel Pritchard said: “We are currently supporting 15 families and we have more on the waiting list. We are receiving many referrals due to the impact of covid-19 and we have just started training ten new volunteers to meet increased demand. Fundraising is particularly difficult at the moment, so we are really grateful for NFU Mutual’s donation.”

NFU spokeswoman Ruth Poulten added: “Supporting communities was at the heart of our business and Home Start’s activities will make such a positive difference to the local community, particularly at a time when people are feeling more isolated.”
