DOG lovers are being called upon to help socialise a life-changing puppy which will go on to work for charity Dogs for Good.
The charity provides assistance dogs to people with physical disabilities and families who have a child with autism.
But it needs volunteers across Rugby, Warwick district and Stratford district to look after eight week old pups while they become socialised.
Puppy socialisers look after the dogs for 12 to 16 months taking them to day-to-day situations such as shopping, travelling on buses and trains, and visiting cafes and restaurants when restrictions lift and they re-open.
Helen Townsend from Lighthorne has socialised six pups and is now a coordinator for the charity.
She said: “There’s a real sense of pride when you see your dog that you’ve had from eight weeks going out and giving somebody independence.
“During the first year of a puppy’s life you have all the fun and get the chance to meet lots of new people and find out what the charity is all about.
“It’s nice to feel you are part of the bigger family at Dogs for Good and to know you are doing something worthwhile. It’s also great to see the end result.”
Volunteers have the option of meeting the next person who will train the dog and the client they are eventually placed with.
Support is currently offered online due to social distancing, and all volunteers must have a secure garden, no more than two pet dogs, be home most of the day and able to spend time socialising the pup.
