Villages to vote in neighbourhood plan referendums

Stratford Editorial 1st Aug, 2018   0

VILLAGERS in Wellesbourne and Walton, and also in Ettington and Fulready, will go to the polls to vote in referendums on respective neighbourhood plans this autumn.

Both of the latest polls in Stratford district will be held on Thursday October 11.

Neighbourhood plans are a key component of the Government’s Localism Act, which aims to devolve greater powers to councils and communities.

Voters will be asked to respond to the question: “Do you want Stratford-on-Avon District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Wellesbourne and Walton to help decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?”

To vote in this referendum residents of the respective parishes must be registered to vote in the Local Government elections and be 18 or over on the day of poll.

The polling station for Wellesbourne and Walton will be at Wellesbourne Village Hall on School Road, while residents in Ettington and Fulready will be able to cast their vote at The Lounge at The Community Centre in Ettington.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Residents wanting to check they are on the Electoral Register and eligible to vote, or wanting to register, need to contact the district council’s electoral services on 01789 260208 no later than September 25.

* Stratford District Council’s Cabinet this week adopted Shotteswell Parish Plan.

The plan will be taken into account in deciding planning applications in the parish and act as a blueprint for the future of the parish defined by the community itself.

Parish Plans provide communities with a framework for the present and plan for the future.

Council planning spokesman Coun Daren Pemberton, said: The Shotteswell Parish Plan will provide a source of local information and the associated Action Plan, addresses the needs and aspirations of the community.”
