The Brexit Party and Lib-Dems celebrate European Election success

THE BREXIT Party and the Liberal Democrats were the big winners in the European elections both nationally and locally.

Nationally Nigel Farage’s newly formed Brexit Party won 29 seats, followed by the Liberal Democrats with 16, Labour with ten, The Green Party with seven, Conservatives with four, the SNP with three and Plaid Cymru with one.

The Conservatives and Labour suffered a Brexit backlash.

Results locally in the West Midlands polling were:




* Rugby borough – The Brexit Party 10,987, Liberal Democrats 6,255, Conservative 3,330, Green Party 3,140, Labour 2,937,

UK Independence Party 1,224, Change UK 1,075. Turnout – 48.72 per cent.


* Stratford district – The Brexit Party 14,723, Liberal Democrats 11,329, Conservative 5,761, Green Party 5,169, Change UK 1,824, Labour 1,628, UK Independence Party 1,133. Turnout – 42.49 per cent.

* Warwick district – Liberal Democrats 13,233, The Brexit Party 11,207, Green Party 8,289, Conservative 4,406, Labour 4,231

Change UK 1,929, UK Independence Party 1,535. Turnout – 42.04 per cent.

Votes polled across the West Midlands – The Brexit Party 507,152, Liberal Democrats, 219,982, Labour Party 228,298, Green Party 143,520, Conservative 135,279, UK Independence Party 66,934, Change UK 45,673. Turnout – 33.1 per cent

Those elected in the West Midlands were Rupert Lowe, Martin Daubney, Andrew Keer (Brexit Party), RogerBennion (Liberal Democrats) Neena Gill (Labour Party), Eleanor Chowns (Green Party), Anthea McIntyre (Conservative).
