Stratford MP pledges support to Theresa May in confidence vote

Laura Kearns 12th Dec, 2018

STRATFORD MP Nadhim Zahawi says he will back the Prime Minister who is set to face a vote of confidence.

The challenge to Mrs May’s position comes after 48 letters calling for a leadership contest were delivered to the 1922 Committee.

MP’s will vote in a secret ballot between 6pm and 8pm tonight (Wednesday).

And Mr Zahawi has pledged his support to Mrs May, who has led the party since shortly after the UK voted to leave the European Union in 2016.

He said: “I am backing Theresa May tonight. We do not need further instability and division. Colleagues need to think of the national interest.”

Theresa May has faced criticism in her party for the Brexit plan she had negotiated.
