Stratford men looking for new shed

MEN in Stratford are looking for a new shed.

The Men’s Shed – a social group for retired men – has been based in Town Square for over two years but will have to move out after the green-light was given to £30million plans to revamp the run down shopping centre. The Men’s Shed concept originated in Australia for retired men with time on their hands.

Retired carpenter Keith Madden set up the Stratford group two years ago. It now has 20 members who meet up to three times a week to do woodwork, share skills or just get out of the house for a coffee and a chat.

They have recently been making small wooden Christmas ornaments for schoolchildren to decorate and sell, and hope to refurbish people’s garden furniture in the new year.

Member Trevor Bachelor said: “Our Men’s Shed will carry on meeting, making and raising funds for our projects as long as we can but without a proper ‘shed’ it will be difficult.

“Someone will hopefully have space for us somewhere that is as good as the home we have now.”

Anyone who can help with a new home for The Men’s Shed can contact Richard on 01789 268294 or email [email protected] for further details about the group.
