Stratford College photography students treated to virtual masterclasses

Stratford Editorial 9th Nov, 2020   0

PHOTOGRAPHY students in Stratford have been receiving virtual masterclasses from industry role models.

Stratford College lecturer Sophie Jolly and fellow colleagues have partnered up with students to identify successful artists whose careers and roles appeal to them.

Sophie explained: “Within the department we have been trying to raise students’ aspirations during this difficult time and online teaching has offered us increasing potential and scope to do this.”

Luke Wilson, who has extensive experience working with big brands such as BMW, was the first media professional invited to speak to students. One college student, had completed work experience with Luke at a location shoot at a car race in Japan, and felt his expertise would be welcomed by her classmates.

During his talk he revealed the challenges of working in the industry and offered valuable advice.

Student Meg said: “Luke gave lots of useful advice, such as “always give back with favours to those that help you and keep training, keep practicing.”

The next masterclass features a photographer whose work includes celebrity weddings. He will discuss the running of his business including the daily challenges of coping with severe dyslexia.
