ANTI-BREXIT campaigners in Stratford are pushing for a say on any final deal.
Stratford4Europe has launched a petition online in a bid to get Stratford District Council to debate the issue and support a ‘People’s Vote’ on any final Brexit deal which includes an option for the United Kingdom to remain a full member of the European Union.
A spokesman said: “Businesses based in the Stratford district, including Jaguar Land Rover and the many smaller businesses specialising in hospitality, have warned recently that exiting the European Union will have a damaging impact on them because of barriers to trade and restrictions on labour recruitment leading to rising prices and job losses.
“In fact, according to the Government’s own figures for all Brexit scenarios, the UK will be considerably worse off outside the European Union with the resultant negative consequences for the District.
“In the light of these facts, we urge the council to show its support for the best interests of the local economy as well as the welfare of all people living and working in the District by endorsing this petition.”
The petition needs to gain 1,000 signatures to trigger a full council debate. .
