SOUTHAM is the latest area in Warwickshire to benefit from a broadband boost.
Engineering work has started this month to connect more than 4,500 homes and businesses in the town to full fibre broadband.
The work is part of a £7 million investment in Warwickshire by ultrafast broadband provider Gigaclear, which is expanding its full-fibre network to underserved market towns and communities in the county.
Gigaclear Central Delivery Director Ben Woods said: “While many other broadband providers compete to offer their services in dense, urban areas we’re focussing on communities in Warwickshire that are far less likely to have a choice of supplier.”
Where possible, Gigaclear will be utilising existing Openreach ducts and poles in order to minimise disruption during the build phase, which is expected to be completed by October.
Mr Woods added: “Having access to reliable and fast broadband speeds is no longer a luxury but is necessary in order for many people to live their lives fully, whether it’s working from home, streaming or accessing other online entertainment.
“At Gigaclear we’re all about delivering digital happiness and what better way to do this than by delivering the peace of mind that comes with having access to full fibre broadband.”
Gigaclear’s full-fibre upgrade is bringing speeds of up to 900Mbps, which would enable homeowners to download a film in its entirety in just four seconds.
