A BRAND new ‘leisure boat marina’ near Stratford town centre is preparing to launch in autumn.
The 250-berth Shakespeare Marina, based near the Seven Meadows Road bridge, will include a shower block with laundry, fuel and service pedestals with water and electricity.
It has been created by developer Geomac Marinas, and administered by the Avon Navigation Trust, to allow boaters to pass through the heart of England, via a mixture of canals and rivers, as part of the Avon ring. This ring provides passage through Evesham, Tewkesbury, Worcester and Birmingham as well as access to the national network.
Geomac spokesperson Neil Warren, of Geomac said: “Marinas are about people not just boats.
“This exclusive leisure boat marina provides customers the chance to moor their boats close to a popular tourist destination whilst providing access to some spectacular cruising routes.
“We are very much looking forward to working alongside the Avon Navigation Trust throughout this project and to develop a close relationship which will see Geomac create a first-class marina in a first-class area.”
Clive Matthews, chief executive of the Avon Navigation Trust, says: “Shakespeare Marina will offer high-quality mooring facilities at the top end of the river on a flood safe site and we know from talking to boat users that there is a demand for this type of facility in the Stratford area.
“I have seen other marinas constructed by Land & Water Services and they are of a very high quality. The marinas are very self-contained and the company remains stalwart in its respect for the ecology of our inland waterways.”
