INVITATIONAL rugby team Superted’s Select XV brought together players from across Warwickshire to score in memory of a baby boy.

TedFest 2019 was hosted by Harbury RFC to commemorate Ted Ellard who suffered a rare heart condition which claimed his life last year aged just one.

The event raised £2,200 for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice which cares for babies with terminal and life-threatening conditions, and offers help and support to their families.

Zoe’s Place has continued to support Ted’s parents Natalie and Kev Ellard following his passing and in return the Whitnash couple have vowed to raise as much money for the charity as they can.

Natalie and Kev said: “Zoe’s Place gave us more than anyone could. What Zoe’s Place offers is absolutely amazing and we will be forever grateful to them. What they gave to us was invaluable.”

The event saw amateur rugby players come together with Ted’s friends and family to form Superted’s Select XV.

Ted’s team emerged victorious against the Harbury Villains with a 22-12 win.

Other activities included a cake sale, face-painting, games, a children’s disco and a raffle.

Harbury RFC chairman Matthew Knight said: “The club was honoured to help out a lovely family and such a worthwhile charity.

“We were so pleased with the turnout despite the extreme weather conditions.

“The game of rugby had flashes of brilliance from seasoned players, but also complete beginners. The main highlight being Kev Ellard scoring a 60 metre wonder try in the final seconds of the game.”
