Round and round again for Captain Tom in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 17th Jul, 2020 Updated: 17th Jul, 2020   0

CAPTAIN Tom has been honoured with his own fairground ride in Stratford.

In the run up to his 100th birthday Captain Tom Moore won the hearts of the nation when he decided to complete 100 laps of his garden to raise money for the NHS. He eventually raised nearly £33million.

And the Children’ Fair at the Recreation Ground now boasts a tribute to the new knight of the realm in the form of a carousel horse complete with paintings of Spitfires.

The fair is re-opening for the summer with social distancing measures in place. The rides are also coated with a 30-day anti-bacterial coating.

The play area at the Rec has now reopened, although the sandpit and paddling pool remain closed for safety reasons, due to the difficulty of keeping it clean.

The outdoor gym and mini-golf have also both reopened.

The Observation Wheel is now turning again and will be welcoming people to take a spin until the end of August.
