Puppy funded by proceeds of crime dips paws into police dog work

A PUPPY funded by the proceeds of crime is dipping her paws into the world of police dog work.

Nine-week-old cocker spaniel Poca has been named after the Proceeds of Crime Act, which seeks to take back the money made from crime.

The pup is Warwickshire Police’s latest recruit and will become a specialist detection dog when she is around 14 months old.

But currently her training is just learning to play with toys and seeing as much as possible.

Poca will live at home with handler PC Kaz Richards and unlike some of the force’s other dogs, who came from charities such as the RSPCA and Dogs Trust, she has been brought from a private breeder.

PC Richards from police dog unit said: “Poca is a wonderful addition to the team, and is already turning heads when we are out and about, with her inquisitive and playful personality.

“These are great traits to have in a police dog, and we hope she will go on to help us solve lots of cases, and bring offenders to justice.”

The crime unit from Warwickshire Police say the money used to buy Poca was seized from convicted drug suppliers, and part of the dog’s job will be to recover cash from criminals including drug dealers.
