PROPOSALS for garden waste charges across the district look set to be approved.
Stratford District Council recently held a consultation over charging an annual fee of £40 for the collection of garden waste. Currently, a maximum of two green bins or six green sacks are collected fortnightly free of charge. The move would generate some £2.2million a year.
The proposal left residents divided with some arguing it contradicted the council’s recent commitment to taking action against climate change.
Others were more supportive of the charge – which is already in place in Rugby and North Warwickshire – saying it would cut down emissions and encourage more people to home compost.
The council’s cabinet this week recommended the charge be approved.
