Police warning for 999 hoaxers after children claim parents dead

Stratford Editorial 23rd Mar, 2020   0

CHILDREN who told operators their parents were dead during a hoax 999 call have prompted a stern warning from Warwickshire Police.

The force’s operations and communications centre team tweeted the call was not funny and neither was risking people’s lives.

They added: “We are extremely busy, and your idiocy has delayed our response to people in genuine need of help.”

It follows a similar tweet from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service last week after a Leamington house fire turned out to be a hoax.

As well as such calls wasting time and resources, the team warned even anonymous callers could be identified and hoaxers could be prosecuted.
