Police urge people to be 'alert but not alarmed' after terror threat raised to highest level

POLICE are urging people to be ‘alert but not alarmed’ after the national terror threat was raised to the highest level.

Across the country the level has been raised to critical – when a terrorist attack is likely to be imminent.

It follows a bomb on a packed commuter train in West London on Friday (September 15), which exploded but failed to go off the way it had been intended.

Many were still injured and suffered burns in the blast.

Warwickshire Police say it is increasing police presence across the county.

Asst Chf Cons Richard Moore said: “Following the events in London, the Prime Minister has increased the UK threat level to critical.

“Warwickshire Police is working with all local and national emergency service partners to ensure we do everything possible to protect our communities.

“At this time there is no specific threat to Warwickshire but we will increase our armed response vehicle capacity in response to the national situation.

“We will also continue to provide a visible policing presence to offer reassurance to our communities and we would urge people to remain calm and vigilant.

“We urge the public to remain alert but not alarmed – the police service and our partners are doing everything we can to help protect our communities and public spaces.

“We advise the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour or activity on 0800 789 321 or in an emergency the public should always call 999.”
