Police on hunt for graffiti vandals

POLICE are on the hunt for vandals caught on camera spraying graffiti on the skate park in Studley.

It happened shortly after 7pm on Saturday (September 17) and the film is shot on the parish council’s new beefed-up CCTV system, which was introduced in a bid to combat an increase in vandalism at the village recreation ground.

The video shows a group of children playing on the skate park before a youth in a grey hoodie appears.

The boy, who is tall, of slim build and appears to be left handed, is then joined by other youths – two on BMX bikes – and starts spraying abusive words on the side of skate park while talking to someone a mobile phone.

Officers believe the attack was premeditated as the youth was already carrying the can of spray paint.

As more children come to take a look, the boy in the grey hoodie walks off and another child takes over, spraying the side of the structure.

Councillor Paul Beaman, chairman of Studley Parish Council, said: “We are all disappointed there is a small element that seems to want to damage rather than enjoy these facilities.

“We are appealing to members of the public to help us identify the young people who did this.

“Ideally we would like the youngsters concerned to come forward and and admit that they have done something wrong and offer to put it right – the council would be delighted to see a response like that.

“It’s much better to do retribution rather than face prosecution because no-one wants to see anyone get themselves a criminal record, just as no-one wants to see the sort of abusive language used here.”

Anyone who recognises those pictures is asked to call either the parish council on 01527 853204 or police on 101.
