PATRIOTIC villagers in south Warwickshire are preparing to go red white and blue for a 75th VE Day Doorstep Picnic Celebration.

Wilmcote has been transformed into a patriotic carnival of colour in preparation for a special lockdown celebration on Friday to mark the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.

The preparations, organised by the Wilmcote Village Outreach volunteers who have been supporting vulnerable residents with shopping and medication runs, have seen the whole village dress their homes in red, white and blue.

A spokesperson said: “The passion and support the village has mustered behind our groups idea has been overwhelming. There is already over 100 houses dressed up in red, white and blue and more by the day, and of course dressing up the houses is just the start.”

The celebration will feature a variety of ways for residents to come together while maintaining lockdown.

They include a doorstep picnic, traditional games in the garden, a toast to heroes old and new, a marching piper, a scarecrow competition, and all completed with a good old fashioned wartime sing-song.

The organisers have reminded villagers to stay inside their gardens, stay at least 2metres away from neighbours, not to share food and drink, and as importantly, to enjoy the day.
