Patients urged to check varying surgery hours

GP practice opening hours vary over Christmas but other services will be available say healthcare chiefs.

Dr David Spraggett, GP and chair of NHS South Warwickshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Depending on your GP practice, hours may vary. Check on their website or enquire in your practice about their opening hours.

“Some practices across Coventry and Warwickshire offer extended access, making GP appointments available at evenings and weekends for convenience and choice.

“Extended access appointments are offered at a number of hubs across the area, which are staffed by teams from local GP practices. For an extended access appointment, just contact your GP practice in the usual way.”

Pharmacists are also on hand to advise on a number of minor illnesses such as colds, coughs and sore throats. Pharmacists are highly trained and are able to offer over the counter medicines to help alleviate symptoms.

Anyone in need of urgent care over the festive period should contact NHS 111 first to discuss symptoms. 111 is a free service available 24/7, including Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
