OVER 80 knives were handed in to county police during a week-long campaign.
Warwickshire Police took part in Operation Sceptre, a nationwide initiative to let people surrender weapons and raise awareness of the consequences of carrying a knife.
In Leamington, 35 blades were handed in, with 17 in Stratford, 15 in Rugby, and 16 in Nuneaton.
Ch Insp Dave Kettle, head of safer neighbourhood policing in Warwickshire, said: “We’re pleased people have handed in these potentially dangerous items. Any of these could have been used to commit an offence and instead now they will be destroyed.
“When people carry a knife they take a conscious decision to do so and it is a decision that could impact on the rest of their lives.
“This was just one week of activity and we will continue to do everything we can to tackle knife crime.
“If anyone has concerns about someone carrying a knife then please contact police.”
