New village home plans set for green-light despite opposition

Stratford Editorial 20th Feb, 2019   0

PLANS to build new homes in place of a sheltered housing scheme and garages in Wellesbourne are set to get the green-light despite objections.

Proposals have been submitted to demolish Willett House – a 1960s complex of flats and bungalows – on Willett Gardens, together with a total of 71 garages on neighbouring St Peter’s Road and Hastings Road.

It would make way for 36 homes – 32 one bedroomed and four two bedroomed properties. All bar six would be on the Willett House site, with three on each of the garage sites.

Current residents at Willett House have all been re-housed and the developer argues the properties are dated, difficult to let and not cost effective to update.

But Wellesbourne Parish Council and ward district councillor Anne Parry have both objected claiming the plans pack in too many homes, and have also voiced concern at the possible risk of flooding.

There have also been 12 letters of objection penned by villagers.

Stratford District Council planning committee will consider the application on Wednesday (February 27).
