New Shakespeare-inspired BBC drama being filmed in Warwickshire

THE BBC is busy filming a new Shakespeare-inspired daytime drama in south Warwickshire.

The ten part drama created will see private investigator Frank Hathaway and his sidekick Lu Shakespeare form an unlikely partnership as they investigate the secrets of Warwickshire’s rural residents. The show will star former Stratford College student and Eastenders actress Jo Joyner, and Mark Benton of Waterloo Road fame.

Expected to air next year, the drama, created by Paul Matthew Thompson and Jude Tindall, plays on Shakespearean themes. Extramarital affairs, missing police informants, care home saboteurs, murderous magicians, embezzling accountants and abducted au pairs are just some of the intrigue viewers can expect.

Jo said: “I’m really looking forward to playing Lu Shakespeare. She’s quick witted, inquisitive, warm and friendly. People tend to open up to her and she’s ready for a new adventure. Becoming a private investigator looks to be the perfect place to use her skills for the greater good.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the fantastic Mark Benton and I think viewers are going to really enjoy watching the two characters rub along together.”

Crews were spotted this week filming at Mediterranean restaurant Valles at the Basement on Spencer Street in Leamington.
