PETER Humberstone is the new president of Shakespeare Lions.
He took over the chains of office from Simon Page at a changeover lunch at Stratford Golf Club attended by Lions and guests.
Shakespeare Lions is one of more than 45,000 clubs worldwide with a membership of 1.3 million members in over 206 countries.
Peter becomes the 52nd president of the club and welcomed the opportunity of maintaining and expanding the community support where possible.
Programmes already running include support for both young and elderly residents – from emergency first aid training in schools to Kettle On bingo sessions for local senior citizens at Stratford Playhouse.
Lions are evaluating nationally the use of camera eye screening programme for children when they start school, and members will learn more about the provision at their September 11 meeting at the White Swan in Stratford.
A junior Lions Club, known as Leos for young people aged 12 to 18, is also being established.
Peter said: “I appreciate the hard work done by members and will encourage a good social life within the club. In August if members approve, I am planning an open evening for the discussion of any ideas informally and off the record.
“Anybody is welcome to come along if interested just let me know in advance. Email [email protected] for more information.”
