COUNCILLOR Mark Cargill is the new chairman of Stratford District Council (SDC).

Outgoing chairman Edward Fitter handed over the chains of office at SDC’s recent Annual Council Meeting.

During his year in office Coun Fitter (Quinton) nominated LifeSpace and Heart of England Forest as his chairman’s charities, and they will receive a donation of over £2,500.

Coun Cargill (Alcester and Rural) has chosen to highlight the invaluable work of Dementia support organisations within the district. His other charity is the RNLI, following on from his time as an officer in the Merchant Navy.

Coun Cargill said of his appointment: “I hope that this coming year will see us all returning to normal with people getting together as they did pre-pandemic.

“It is difficult to overstate the importance of community events where we can all work together and support each other.

“I look forward to attending as many such events as I can within the District and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations are an excellent start.”

Stratford District Council’s Cabinet for the coming year was agreed at the Annual Council Meeting.

It is made up of Tony Jefferson (Strategic Leadership), Daren Pemberton (Place & Economy)

Christopher Kettle Legal and Community Protection, Ian Shenton (Climate Change ), Trevor Harvey (Resources), Jo Barker Homes (Health & Wellbeing), Anne Parry (Planning) and Matt Jennings (ICT, Transformation, HR, Tourism and Projects).

SDC leader Coun Jefferson said: “There have been significant changes to cabinet portfolios to recognise the new challenges and new opportunities. The experience of the merger process with Warwick District Council has underlined the importance of a strong cabinet and excellent teamwork.”
