A ROBBER beat a man to the ground before snatching his backpack near Alcester.

A driver who had broken down on the Alcester Road was walking back to his car from the BP garage near the roundabout, when a robber hit him on the back of the head around 7pm on Friday (September 1).

The thug hit him several times before stealing his backpack and fleeing.

The backpack contained a white iPhone, green and brown striped wallet and other various items.

The victim was rushed to hospital with a head injury.

Det Con Tom Quinlan of Warwickshire Police CID said: “We are urging anyone who may have been in the area around the time and seen anything suspicious to contact police as soon as possible.

“It is believed that there may have been a dog walker and others present at the time of the incident.

“Fortunately he was not seriously injured but has understandably shaken by the ordeal.

Any witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101.
