JCB digger used to try and steal cash machine

A JCB digger was used to try and steal a cash machine in Bidford during the early hours of Thursday morning (October 27).

Police were called to the Budgens store at around 2.10am where an attempt had been made to rip out the cash machine – leaving a hole in the wall next to it.

The digger was abandoned by the thieves next to the Salford Road supermarket, along with another vehicle which is believed to have been stolen from the Pershore area.

Police are unsure whether anything was stolen and detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage.

Det Sgt Gavin Lambert said: “This was an unsuccessful attempt to steal a cash machine from the store and, whilst we do not know at this stage whether anything else has been stolen, a lot of damage has been caused.

“Local people may have been disturbed by the noise or wondered why a JCB was travelling along Salford Road in the early hours of the morning, and we would like to hear from them in case they have any useful information.”

Anyone who was in Salford Road around 2am or has any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
