Foodbank seeks volunteers to meet increasing demand

Stratford Editorial 11th May, 2017   0

STRATFORD Foodbank is looking for volunteers, including a team leader, to help meet increasing demand.

Distribution sessions are held at the Foodbank’s car park base next to Tesco’s Maybird store, where parcels of three days worth of food are provided to those with vouchers.

Volunteers must be available twice a month on a Tuesday or Friday, from noon to 2pm, or Thursday evening from June 1.

The foodbank has been particularly busy recently, feeding on average 188 people in a month.

Candidates should be good listeners, capable of leading a small team, have a passion for helping those in crisis and cope well under pressure.

Foodbank manager Marion Homer said “We are very fortunate we already have a tremendously dedicated group of front line team leaders.

“But, with our new Thursday session starting in June, and to cover the holiday season we could do with one or two more. Being a foodbank volunteer is tremendously rewarding and we are a friendly and active team. Our volunteers make all our visitors feel as welcome as possible and a cup of tea and a listening ear is always available. The red foodbank voucher, proving eligibility for support, is discreetly checked and the food parcel made up.”
