Flying doctors now on duty 24 hours a day

WARWICKSHIRE and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance is now operating 24/7.

Crews based at Coventry Airport at Baginton are now on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in response to demand.

While the helicopter will operate during the day, a rapid response vehicle will now work through the night.

Head of operations Phil Bridle said the charity had always wanted to operate around the clock.

He added: “Our late shift used to finish at 2am. Over the last two years the operational team has collated data to fully understand what demand looks like between 2am and 7am. This data clearly highlighted the need for us to increase the hours of when our clinical teams are available.

“This increase to the operational hours will mean we will be able to further support our NHS Ambulance Service colleagues during a time where there are fewer resources available which can provide critical care.

“We receive no government funding and rely solely on public, legacy and corporate donations.

“The increase in hours will mean an increase to the annual operational costs, therefore we are asking the public to once again support the cause so we can provide our vital clinical services 24 hours a day.”
