HEARTS will be racing at a charity Dragon Boat Race on the Avon this summer.

The community is being called on to join the fund-raising event on June 22 in aid of Heart Research UK Midlands.

Teams of 11 will battling it out along a 200 metre course in colourful dragon-shaped boats starting from Stratford Boat Club.

The race, sponsored by local engineering company adi Group, is open to businesses, sports clubs and groups of friends, aged 16 and over.

The fastest teams from the heats will enter the grand final, and row it out for the coveted dragon boat trophy.

Charity spokesman John Lloyd said: “We’d love to get as many teams involved as we can, so if you’ve ever fancied yourself as a Steve Redgrave, or just want to a day of fun in the sun whilst raising money for a great cause, get in touch.

“The money raised will be spent here in the midlands, on pioneering medical research and innovative community projects.”

All teams should aim to raise £1,000 in sponsorship to help fund medical research and improve the heart health of the region.
