COVENTRY and Warwickshire is bracing itself for a period of potentially heavy snowfall after yellow weather warnings were issued for most of the week.

According to the Met Office, snow showers are expected this afternoon.

Temperatures are also expected to plummet along with possibly more snow later on in the week.

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings until Friday.

It has predicted snowfall between this afternoon (January 29) and 11am tomorrow (January 30).

And it adds the region can expect snow between 3pm on Thursday (January 31) and noon on Friday (February 1).

Health authorities are advising residents to keep their homes warmed to 18 degrees centigrade where possible, have plenty of warm drinks and food, and wrap up warm.

Those who have long-term health conditions, including heart, kidney and breathing problems, have been advised to take extra care as it gets colder.

Foleshill Police in Coventry has issued a warning on Twitter, saying: “With snow forecast across the region it’s the time to check your car and see if its #WeatherReady. Tread depth, Tyre pressure, Washers, Lights, Wipers.

“Remove all snow from your car before driving. #Coventry #Foleshill #snowjoke”
