THREE recycling centres in Warwickshire are being forced to close.
Warwickshire County Council is working to keep services running smoothly but staff shortages due to the virus have resulted in the reduction of the number of recycling centres that can be safely kept open.
As a result centres at Burton Farm in Stratford, Cherry Orchard in Kenilworth and Shipston have closed.
Princes Drive in Leamington, Hunters Lane in Rugby and Lower House Farm in Atherstone currently remain open.
These sites are also used by district and borough councils and have a commercial waste provision.
Three other sites are operated by contractors and which are also currently open include Wellesbourne, Judkins, in Nuneaton and Stockton (Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays only).
County environment spokeswoman Coun Heather Timms said: “We are doing everything we can to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on residents. Closing three sites will put additional pressure on the sites remaining open, so we are asking residents to please consider if a trip to a recycling centre at this time is necessary.”
“In order to try and reduce customer and staff risk of exposure to the Covid-19 virus, staff will be keeping a safe distance from visitors whilst giving advice and working on site. Please sort your waste and recycling at home and be prepared to deposit your materials while keeping a safe distance from staff and other visitors.
“If you are in a household with confirmed, or possible Covid-19 infection, only ‘personal waste’ (such as used tissues or masks) and disposable cleaning cloths should be treated differently. These must be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into a second bag, tied securely and kept separate from all other waste for a period of 72 hours, before putting into your usual black/grey wheelie bin. As usual, all other waste, recycling, food and garden waste can be placed in your normal wheelie bins.
The council warns it may be necessary to temporarily close other waste recycling centres at short notice.
