VOLUNTEER community transport in south Warwickshire has been stopped to ensure patient safety.
VASA provides volunteer drivers to take patients to and from medical appointments across south Warwickshire.
But chairman Trevor Russel said as the organisation could not comply with social distancing it has been forced to stop the service.
He said: “We have had to bow to the inevitable, even though our drivers wanted to carry on.
“We couldn’t comply with the social distancing requirements, and have had to stop the service to avoid putting our drivers and patients at risk.
“The decision has caused distress among trustees and staff because taking away support from some of the most vulnerable is anathema to us.
“We are redeploying our staff, drivers and other volunteers to work with other organisations and agencies to provide other support to the vulnerable.”
