Coronavirus: Myton Hospice issues urgent appeal after outbreak forces events to be postponed

Stratford Editorial 19th Mar, 2020   0

MYTON Hospice is appealing for support after being forced to postpone fund-raising events due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The charity has called off its flagship event Glow for Myton, which raises around £60,000 annually.

And it is concerned it will also have to cancel other upcoming fund-raising events.

The charity’s 27 shops have already seen a decline in sales and donations, and it is likely people will no longer be able to hold collections in supermarkets.

Myton also had a number of people signed up to take part in the London Marathon and Coventry Half Marathon, which have both been postponed.

A spokeswoman said: “With rising uncertainty and a rapidly-escalating situation Glow for Myton will likely be the first of many fundraising events we are forced to postpone or cancel and the potential impact on the charity is huge.

“In times that are already financially challenging for charities the potential impact of this situation is devastating.”

Myton Hospice – which has sites in Warwick, Coventry and Rugby and also offers community care – needs to raise more than £9million each year to support terminally ill patients and their families.

It is calling on people to donate.

The spokeswoman added: “We are genuinely concerned about the impact the coronavirus outbreak is already having on our ability to raise vital funds.

“Myton cares for some of the most vulnerable people and make the most difficult times that little bit more manageable for patients and their families, so we are asking if you can please show your support by making a donation so we can continue to be there for those who need them, now and in the future.”
