Community members sought for retained firefighter roles

EXTRAORDINARY members of the community are being sought in Stratford to be part of a team of retained firefighters.

The role can be undertaken alongside a career in agreement with employers or outside of normal working hours. An annual payment is paid as well as an hourly wage when carrying out duties.

In Warwickshire there are over 100 retained firefighters who live or work in their local community and carry a pager ready to respond to any emergency – but more are needed to provide cover at retained stations across the county during the day, nights and weekends.

Service spokesman Keith Mc Dermott said: “Stratford Fire Station is situated right in the heart of Stratford and our retained firefighters play a vital role in keeping both residents and businesses safer. In order to be able to provide the cover required to maintain the level of service currently provided, we need more people to come forward to provide cover, particularly in the daytime and at the weekends.

“We are we are looking to recruit people from all walks of life.

“No previous experience is needed, but common sense, self-motivation, compassion and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

“You must also live or work within five minutes travel time of the fire station and be over 18.

“The job is challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding careers you will ever have.”
