THE LIGHTS were dimmed for a dining experience with a difference at Stratford College.
Catering student Elise Salter put her culinary skills to the test by hosting ‘dining in the dark’ at the college’s academy restaurant to raise £630 for the Shakespeare Puppies Appeal.
Guests were treated to six courses which used a variety of textures, flavours and aromas while wearing blindfolds – music students also greeted guests with a performance to enhance the sensory experience.
Fellow student Lara Galliford helped Elise in planning and catering the event and they were both supported by lecturer Hannah Waldram.
She said: “As part of the students’ enrichment programme this has been a valuable experience for all the students involved.
“There are plans to work with a representative from the charity even more in the future, to help the students understand better the difficulties faced by the visually impaired and explore further how they can help and support people in the community.”
The Shakespeare Puppies Appeal will use the money raised to continue training and providing guide dogs for the blind in Stratford.
