Church-goers have more than their daily bread at pop-up restaurant fundraiser

A CHURCH transformed into a pop-up restaurant to raise money for charity.

Parishioners at St George’s Church in Newbold Pacey took out the pews and replaced them with bistro tables and dishes cooked by local chefs Nigel and Lisa Hyde.

More than £500 was raised towards the church fund – and the event proved such a success it is set to be held again next year.

Co-organiser Sally Grant said: “Everyone commented on the delicious food and the church was decorated to look like a romantic restaurant. Everyone gasped in amazement as they came in. It was a real novelty and lots of people from the area, not just regular church-goers, came along. It was such a hit, we’re planning to make it an annual event.

“The money raised is going to a very good cause too – providing the funds to keep our lovely eco-church as a source of peace, beauty and spiritual support, not just for our ‘regulars’ but for everyone in the community.”

A summer lunch is set to be held at church on Saturday June 29 at 12.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 with proceeds going to the church fund. Call 01926 651508 for more information.
