Charity donation boosts hedgehog happiness in Warwickshire

Stratford Editorial 6th Dec, 2021   0

HEDGEHOG happiness in Warwickshire has been boosted by donations to two animal sanctuaries in the county.

Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue and Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue – both volunteer-run charities dedicated to nursing sick, injured and abandoned hedgehogs until they can be released back into the wild – have each received £500 from housebuilder Mulberry Homes as part of its commitment to improve ecology.

The charities aim to rescue and rehabilitate as many hedgehogs in the county as possible, while raising awareness of how local people can help hedgehogs themselves.

Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue will be using the funds to buy ten electric heat pads to accelerate the recovery of the juvenile hedgehogs under their care, in preparation for hibernation.

At Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue, the £500 will be used on building a much-needed extension to the rescue.

Linda Clements of Warwickshire Hedgehog Rescue said: “We are thrilled and excited to be the recipient of the November Mulberry Homes donation.

“How lucky can our hedgehogs be? Ten of them are about to receive an electric heat pad to keep them snug and warm, thus facilitating their recovery until they are healthy enough to hibernate.

“Thank you from us and those ten happy hogs.”

Debbie Boddington, Founder and Medical Leader at Barnacle Hedgehog Rescue, said: “We were overwhelmed with the generosity of Mulberry Homes. The amazing donation of £500 has come at a much-needed time, helping us to build an extension and therefore support many more hedgehogs.”

Kerry Jones, Sales and Marketing Director at Mulberry Homes, said: “Protecting and supporting the wildlife which live among where we operate is a huge part of our ethos at Mulberry Homes, and we couldn’t be happier to be supporting these wonderful charities as they care for our prickly friends.”

The donations come as part of Mulberry Homes’ 10-year anniversary campaign, in which it has committed to donating a total of £10,000 to charities and organisations local to its developments throughout 2021. Both hedgehog charities operate close by to the developer’s The Templars development in Temple Herdewyke, as well as its head office in Rugby.
