Cancer support group urges fund-raisers to saddle up for Father's Day

A PROSTATE cancer support group is urging people to jump in the saddle on Father’s Day.

South Warwickshire Prostate Cancer Support Group is holding a 45 minute charity spin ride at Stratford Leisure Centre on Sunday (June 16) at 11am.

The ride has been organised by the group’s chairman Doug Badger in a bid to raise awareness about the illness and the group, which meet at The Shakespeare Hospice.

The support group chose to hold the event on Father’s Day after it proved such a hit last year – and they are hoping to beat their fund-raising target of £2,500 which will be donated to awareness-raising charity Tackle.

Doug said: “Our challenge was to fill the 26 static bike seats and to persuade everyone to raise sponsorship. The choice of Father’s Day proved to be inspired. Some who were spinning were doing so in memory of their fathers and others were doing it as a contribution to supporting their fathers who are living with prostate cancer. And many of us were doing it to prove to ourselves that we still could get on our bikes, prostate cancer and other health conditions notwithstanding.

“Survival rates for prostate cancer are still worsening. Tackle is the prostate cancer patients’ voice – help us make the government hear that voice.”
