Business hub boost for budding entrepreneurs

BUSINESS-minded students will be given a boost thanks to a new support project.

Using a £30,000 grant from Warwickshire County Council (WCC), pupils at Kineton High School have turned a disused block at the school into a business hub.

The ‘Konnect’ project sees students improve employability skills by teaming up with businesses including Whiteroom design agency, The British Motor Museum, Space 2 and Compton Verney art gallery.

Projects include photography workshops, curating a library at Compton Verney, visits to residents at Kineton Manor Nursing Home and a school newsletter.

Pupils also worked with designers to create the Konnect logo.

The hub has already been used for workshops and student meetings and will be used to host regular business breakfasts.

Headteacher Siona Robson said: “It has been a real privilege to work with the students who in their words have had the opportunity to ‘take over’.

“I could not be more proud of our student newsletter, Vocalise and the fantastic student reporters and editors who work so hard on each edition.

“The Konnect Hub will bring together careers and work experience information and provide a professional environment for students to develop their employability skills supported by our local business community.

WCC leader Izzi Seccombe said the council was working to promote ‘enterprise education’ in schools and increase business understanding among pupils.

She added: “Konnect is an exciting initiative empowering young people to gain relevant business skills which they have a hand in shaping.”
