Travellers evicted from school sports ground

BAILIFFS have evicted travellers from a school playing field in Stratford.

Four caravans were still on the King Edward VI sports field on Manor Road this morning (Thursday) after a 24-hour eviction notice was served by bailiffs on Tuesday evening.

The group arrived on the site over the weekend and refused to move voluntarily.

A bailiff and a police officer went to the site earlier today and demanded they leave – which they then did.

Headteacher Bennett Carr feared the travellers would cause further mess and damage to the field which has previously been the target of anti-social behaviour.

He added the school would be tightening up security around the site including a possible new fence and gate, and intended to make the sports ground ‘less attractive’ to potential trespassers.
