ArtsHouse campaigners confident of a bright future

CAMPAIGNERS are confident Stratford ArtsHouse has a bright future

Save the ArtsHouse campaigners have been busy putting together a strategy to secure a future for the Rother Street venue.

Owners Stratford Town Trust announced in February it would no longer fund the venue from mid-May, but assured residents it would remain for community use. The trust is currently inviting proposals for ways to run the venue sustainably.

Organiser Dominic Skinner said campaigners were looking into models of nearby community hubs – some of which are run by volunteers.

He added: “The community has really got behind the project and I don’t see why in Stratford we couldn’t recruit volunteers and do the same.

“We’ve had an amazing response and we have support – though not financial – from Stratford District Council and are also looking to the town council for support as well.

“Nothing is set in stone yet but I’m confident the doors won’t be shutting in May and the venue will benefit the community which I believe is what the trust wanted all along.

“Our aim is to get them onside, deliver a plan that will keep the doors open, and create an ArtsHouse that is accessible for all. We are certainly moving in that direction.”

He added the trust remained supportive and aware of the campaign’s developments but nothing had yet been formally presented.

The trust is accepting proposals until April 21.
