Appeal to find local stolen dogs taken on the road by Hawkwind

AN APPEAL to find stolen dogs from Kineton and Stratford is being taken on the road by rock band Hawkwind.

The self-confessed animal lovers – who found success with hits such as Silver Machine – were left shocked after hearing 28 dogs are lost or stolen in the UK each day.

And to try and help they decided to use their 50th anniversary tour to spread the word and hopefully reunite lost pets with their owners.

The band – who are performing at Coventry’s Empire on Sunday (November 24) – will play a montage of stolen dogs at every gig.

The slideshow will include Weimeraner Loki and Dachshund Pippin, who went missing from their owner’s garden in Kineton in April.

It also features Lily, a Spaniel taken from Bishopton Lane in Stratford in March.

Each montage will be tailored to the area the band is performing, but will also include dogs missing from different areas of the country.

The slideshows have been created by charity DogLost – which works to reunite lost pets with their owners – and includes details about when and where they went missing.

A Hawkwind spokeswoman said: “We are all huge animal lovers and have always supported lots of animal charities.

“It just takes one person to know something to hopefully reunite a stolen dog with their owner.

“This is something we really believe strongly in and plan to do more often going forward. Hopefully it will take off and other bands will start to do the same. Imagine the amount of dogs that could be found if festivals like Glastonbury did this.”

Tickets to see Hawkwind at The Empire cost £25.50. Visit www.coventryempire.co.uk to book.
