Anti-Brexit campaigners deliver message to Stratford MP

Ian Hughes 2nd Feb, 2018

ANTI-Brexit campaigners delivered a message to Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi.

Supporters of Stratford4Europe gathered outside the headquarters of the Conservative Party in the town to display a giant cheque for £48billion – representing the amount they claim the government has committed so far on the cost of the UK’s divorce settlement from the European Union.

The protesters also delivered a letter to Mr Zahawi saying he was not representing to the government the views of many in his constituency that the growing bill for Brexit was a “devastating waste of taxpayers’ money” with the pressures on the NHS, social services and schools.

Stratford4Europe chair Jonathan Baker said; “The point of our protest is to show how much Brexit is already costing this country, not just in monetary terms but also in the missed opportunities to provide more hospital beds, train more doctors and nurses, and to provide a proper level of aftercare for those who need it.

“We believe this is a tragic waste of money and that our local MP needs to put the welfare and future prosperity of his constituents before any misguided loyalty to his party.”

The Observer has asked Mr Zahawi for a response.
