AC Grayling to launch new local pro-EU group Stratford4Europe

Stratford Editorial 8th Feb, 2017   0

NOTED philosopher and writer AC Grayling will officially launch new local pro-EU group Stratford4Europe at a public meeting at Stratford School on March 1.

Professor Grayling, who has described Brexit as a ‘disastrous folly’, will speak on ‘Fighting for Europe’, and urge continuing opposition to the UK leaving the EU.

Stratford4Europe is an independent cross party organisation set up to campaign for Britain to play a leading role within a strong and united Europe.

Spokesman Jonathan Baker said: “‘Stratford4Europe will be making the positive case for Europe, for Britain’s continuing membership of the EU and for our democratically-elected Parliament to be sovereign in making any decisions about Britain’s future in the world and our country’s future.

“Ultimately that means our delegated representatives having the final say on Britain remaining in the EU when they vote on the outcome of the Brexit negotiations.”

The campaign group already has a number of further activities organised including meeting with West Midlands MEPs and participating in a mass rally of ‘Remain’ supporters in London on October 25. A small delegation is also meeting with Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi next month to present their views and seek his support.

Mr Baker added:”There is growing evidence, nationally and locally, of a swing in public opinion towards remaining in the EU. There is every likelihood that more and more people will change their views when it becomes clearer exactly what Brexit means in terms of its impact onb oth this country’s economy and its future security.”

Professor Grayling is Master of the New College for Humanities, London and its Professor of Philosophy. A prolific author and writer, he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and former Chair of the Booker Prize judges.

The launch meeting starts at 7pm. Entry is free but only bookable in advance through Eventbrite (eventbrite.co.uk)
