Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense at Kenilworth's Priory Theatre

Stratford Editorial 3rd Jul, 2017   0

When  a country house weekend takes a turn for the worse, Bertie Wooster is unwittingly called on to play matchmaker in Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense at Kenilworth’s Priory Theatre from July 5 to 15.
Bertie is charged with reconciling the affections of his host’s drippy daughter Madeline Bassett with his newt-fancying acquaintance Gussie Fink-Nottle.
If Bertie, ably assisted by the ever-dependable Jeeves, can’t pull off the wedding of the season he’ll be forced to abandon his cherished bachelor status and marry the ghastly girl himself.
Based on PG Wodehouse’s ever-popular comic capers, the Goodale Brothers’ dramatisation premiered in London’s West End 2013.
The Priory production features a company of three local actors. Dan Gough creates the role of the Bertie while Ben Wellicome and Brian Goredema-Braid play the roles of Jeeves and Seppings respectively, along with a host of other Wodehouse characters in a production featuring over 30 quick changes.
Steve Boden and Jonathan Howes direct.
Steve explained: “The premise of the show is that Bertie Wooster has booked a theatre to recount his story of his weekend visit to Totleigh Towers. With the help of his Valet Jeeves and Seppings, the butler, they literally create the story and play all the characters themselves.
“In order for us to plan the creativity and timings of all this, our rehearsals have necessitated the use of costumes, props and scenic items and a lot of very inventive fun.”
