Once again there has been a lot of great British news to report this week (31st January – 6th February 2022).

You might think it’s all doom and gloom in the media, but it’s not… good things are happening too!

10. Ministry of Justice creating more than 2,000 jobs across England and Wales to spread opportunity

Seven new regional Ministry of Justice (MoJ) offices will be opened across England and Wales, the Deputy Prime Minister has announced this week as the Government continues to level up communities. The new Justice Collaboration Centres will be launched alongside a series of satellite offices as the government’s Places for Growth programme continues to move civil service roles out of London and closer to the communities it serves. The scheme will ensure the public sector utilises the vast array of talent across England and Wales with 22,000 roles moving out of the capital by 2030… click here

9. Tech IPOs in the UK raised a record £6.6 billion in 2021, double 2020 figures




New figures show 126 companies raised £16.9 billion through IPOs in London last year – the highest amount of IPO capital raised since 2007. Following a year of bumper public debuts by tech companies, analysis shows that tech IPOs in the UK raised £6.6 billion, more than double 2020’s figures of £3.1 billion, according to data from the London Stock Exchange (LSE). Digital Minister Chris Philp said: “2021 was a brilliant year for UK tech and it’s great to see just how many companies have grown from startup to scale-up, to finally becoming publicly-listed businesses on the London markets. 8. New cohort of business leaders to turbocharge UK economy


The Prime Minister is launching a new Business Council following the two-year Brexit anniversary, as part of ambitions to assert the UK as the best place in the world to do business. The Prime Minister’s revamped Business Council, co-chaired by the Chancellor, will convene a new cohort of business leaders to work in partnership with the Government, helping to drive a high productivity, high growth economy over the next 12 months and level up local economies around the country. The new Council will support the UK’s recovery from Covid-19 and prioritise delivering the green industrial revolution, creating new jobs and developing a skilled workforce, and unlocking global investment… click here

7. British Hybrid Air Vehicles set to open production facility within new aerospace manufacturing cluster in South Yorkshire

Hybrid Air Vehicles, the British manufacturer of Airlander 10 – the world’s longest aircraft, is set to open a production facility in the South Yorkshire Region. The British company prides itself on being at the forefront of zero-carbon aviation and partnering with likeminded companies in developing electric motors for the aviation sector. 6. £500 million loan guarantee supports Jaguar Land Rover’s electric vehicle plans

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive plc has received a £500 million Export Development Guarantee which will support the research, development and export of Battery Electric Vehicles, International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan said this week. Backing electric car production in the UK is a key part of the Prime Minister’s Ten Point Plan for a green industrial revolution. The government is also directly investing more than £850 million to develop the supply chain for cleaner vehicles in the UK to ensure our auto industry remains competitive for years to come and has supported over £2 billion of commercial investment into the industry’s export capacity through UKEF… click here

5. Further plans to level up opportunities for every child across the UK

Plans confirmed for register of children not in school so no child can ‘fall through the cracks.’ New measures to make sure children are getting the quality of education they deserve are being announced today, as the government continues its drive to level up opportunities for every child and family across the country. The government has this week confirmed it will go ahead with the creation of a register for children not in school at the earliest available legislative opportunity, alongside plans to give schools greater support on behaviour and rebuild hundreds more school buildings across the country…. click here

4. ‘Primed to be part of global Britain’s future’ PM officially opens the UK’s newest port

The Port of Tilbury welcomed Prime Minister Boris Johnson to the UK’s newest port this week to officially open Tilbury2. Visiting the Thames-based port, the Prime Minister was given a tour of the country’s largest freight ferry terminal, the site of what will become Britain’s biggest construction processing terminal and new border infrastructure, alongside meeting the port’s key workers, apprentices and customers like P&O Ferries and Tarmac. On the two year anniversary of the UK leaving the EU, the Prime Minister was given an overview of the technology-backed systems that streamline clearing the border, such as number plate recognition, and the 12-bay Border Control Post… click here

3. Brexit Freedoms Bill to cut EU red tape

A new ‘Brexit Freedoms’ Bill will be brought forward by the government, under plans unveiled by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to mark the two-year anniversary of Getting Brexit Done. The Bill will make it easier to amend or remove outdated ‘retained EU law’ – legacy EU law kept on the statute book after Brexit as a bridging measure – and will accompany a major cross-government drive to reform, repeal and replace outdated EU law. These reforms will cut £1 billion of red tape for UK businesses, ease regulatory burdens and contribute to the government’s mission to unite and level up the country. Many EU laws kept on after Brexit were agreed as a messy compromise between 28 different EU member states and often did not reflect the UK’s own priorities or objectives… click here

2. British manufacturing output continues to grow for 20th consecutive month

The start of 2022 saw growth of UK manufacturing output and employment strengthen, as companies responded to improved new order intakes, rising backlogs of work and addressed shortfalls in capacity. Although supply chain constraints continued to stymie growth, there were signs that these were passed their peak, a factor contributing to a slight easing in purchase price inflation. The seasonally adjusted IHS Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers’ Index® (PMI®) fell slightly to 57.3 in January, down from 57.9 in December, remaining above the 50.0 mark that denotes growth for the twentieth consecutive month… click here

1. Millions of UK households to receive £350 boost to help with rising energy costs

Millions of households will receive £350 of government support to help protect them from rising energy costs, the Chancellor announced this week. Recognising that growing cost of living pressures was the “number one issue on people’s minds”, Rishi Sunak said this package would support hard working families. The Energy Bills Rebate will provide around 28 million households with an upfront discount on their bills worth £200. Energy suppliers will apply the discount to domestic electricity customers from October, with the Government meeting the costs. The discount will then be automatically recovered from people’s bills in equal £40 instalments over the next five years. This will begin from 2023, when global wholesale gas prices are expected to come down… click here
