Flashmob of school pupils take Stratford by surprise

IT MAY not have been quite how the Bard envisioned it – but it certainly took Stratford by surprise.

A flashmob of local school pupils descended on Henley Street for a street dance inspired by Romeo and Juliet.

The youngsters from St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School put on the surprise performance on Monday (March 18) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Shakespeare Week – the annual national celebration of Shakespeare in primary schools.

The dance routine kicked off a packed programme of Shakespeare-related fun.

Running on Tuesday (March 19) were a host of activities for school children including an assembly at Stratford Playhouse featuring Horrible Histories illustrator Martin Brown.

And youngsters take to the stage at the Playhouse today (Wednesday) for some Shakespeare-inspired performances including the premier production of an extract of Romeo and Juliet from the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s new Children’s Folio – that uses all of Shakespeare’s original language but is accessible to children.
